Honestly, these guys are rather difficult to keep in touch with. While we were celebrating, they worked. We are enjoying our holiday season, and they are out in the field again. After all, we are living a peaceful life of civilians, and they practically always are in the forefront watching enemies through the sights of their sniper rifles.
Actually, there have been no special news lately: we would just like to say that friends of ours, the snipers of the “Donbas” Special Forces battalion of the National Guard of Ukraine have sent us a few newest pictures from the frontline. Also, we’d like to state the fact that the guys received the silencers and the weather station we bought on your donations, and, according to the official procedure, listed the gear in their military unit’s balance sheet and transferred us the corresponding documents. These are the shooters whose work has been kept strictly secret, and almost nobody could comment on it; still now, in the fourth consecutive year of the war, nearly everyone knows about them: even the enemy try to keep silent and hasten to hide into the smallest sheds, as soon as the information about their outing spreads along the frontline. So we are not going to remain silent about these good people as well.
Fun is fun, still the enemy will hardly have time for it. Eventually, you will be able to see fair faces of these snipers uncovered a bit later, after we have won this war.
Only recently, we published a tragic news concerning the losses the Ukrainian Army had in past December. The majority of the fallen fighters are the enemy snipers’ victims: the occupiers directs hundreds of well-trained killers, starting from the Russian Army career snipers to dozens and hundreds of assorted mercenaries, foreign misers and paramilitary comers. To exterminate all this scum is our snipers’ task, as the counter sniper work makes the most part of their job. Will you forgive us certain secrecy as regards their work, still believe our word: their performance has proven to be highly effective recently.

But it should be remembered that sniping is rather expensive and demanding activity. A skilled sniper whose task is to neutralize the opponent in an instant, is limited in possibilities. To determine the enemy’s position and not to get into his scope’s range himself. To calculate the distance to the target that may pop up in the specified area for a second and vanish again. To estimate the weather. To take into account the wind correction, humidity of the air considering the characteristics of the bullet – the trademark, weight, material, even the amount of gunpowder in the cartridge. To adjust the optics, to aim the sights – to catch that brief second when the rhythm of everlasting, measured, breath matches the bouncing heartbeat. A slight effort of the finger, the trigger performs its short deadly move – and the bullet is rushing towards the target rupturing the air.
A weather station looks fairly like Tamagotchi, still a skilled sniper just cannot do without it. At the moment, we are preparing two of these for sending to the forefront, and have to buy two more stations shortly as well
To consider all these factors a sniper has just a few seconds. Naturally, there are some exceptionally handy things, like a ballistic calculator, for example: it is a professional software installed on a corresponding sniper tablet which is a time-saving tool designed for calculating trajectories. A weather station is quite practical as well: it is a tiny pocket device featuring a funny fan on its top which is able of instant reading of the weather conditions and displaying the data. Powerful optics delivering the clear view of the opponent at a distance, is the gear of vital importance, too. Needless to say, a laser range finder is the most essential tool as well!

So the bullet hit the target – still the job is half done yet. As to keep the sniper safe and intact, to protect him against enemy’s firing back remains the vital thing. Naturally, it would be great to make another shot or two from the same position, without drawing attention of the enemy. This is the right opportunity for a silencer: it helps to muffle and disperse the sound of a shot, making the sniper undetectable for some time.

A corresponding outfit and proper environmental disguise are of great importance as well, since a sniper and his assistant choose and prepare their deliberated position in advance; mask the working place making it perfectly matching the environment and looking unsuspicious for prying eyes. Once the position has been disclosed, the snipers must follow the pre-made exit route – and a GPS navigator makes a matchless option in tracking it. A thermal imaging sights, or thermal imager, is a perfect gain as well: the gear is helpful in detecting enemy saboteur groups or storming units; in uncovering enemy snipers’ backing groups or stakeouts; in getting to the destination safely; and on occasion, in shooting a well camouflaged enemy down.
This was the gear we sent them a while ago: the cost of this detector for counter sniper work was rather astronomical, almost half a million hryvnias. But it has still been working!
One needs to keep in mind that the state is unable to provide the snipers with newest weapons for effective long-range work. Most often, the military shooters have to get along with ordinary Dragunov sniper rifle as a maximum. So usually the snipers purchase the necessary weapons at their own expense. Moreover, they also need specific ammunition which is rather expensive as well: and to work effectively, they need lots of these, too.

And this is a good opportunity for us to prove supportive for them. For quite a long time, People’s Project Volunteer Center has been actively managing two projects, I Am Sniper and Rapid Response. Within the first one we are accumulating benevolent donations made by ordinary sympathetic citizens, sizeable contributions and sometimes even special gifts from individual benefactors. On raised funds we buy specific gear for the snipers, namely ammunition and inventory helpful in both making their work effective and improving their personal safety. Within the second initiative, we instantly buy the stuff our military need immediately. If you are aware of the danger threatening us from across the eastern border, if you imagine what these false “brothers” can do to us and our kids if we do not resist them at our best – we invite you to participate in supporting our snipers. The need of your support will remain appropriate all the time, as the guys work without intervals, even at this very moment. Sometimes just one shot hitting the right target, may change the course of the entire war, thus saving thousands of people’s lives. Quite possible, this accurate shot will be fired by the sniper to whom you – personally – assisted. Think about it.
