Bioengineering Rehabilitation for Wounded

Update on the Biotech patients’ status: bad news time

Dear friends, fairness and transparency are the principles People’s Project has been sticking to from the very first days. We always openly report on incoming money, expenditures and purchases; constantly inform you (naturally, within reasonable limits) on the news coming from the units fighting in the forefront; each time we share good things that make up happy and inspire to proceed with our volunteering. Still today we have a very sad news, and there is no point to conceal it.

At the beginning of October, Valeriy, one of the Bioengineering Rehabilitation for Wounded project’s latest patients, passed away. The man joined the Project suffering from the consequences of a heavy injury he had got in 2015 when he was fighting with the Aidar battalion. Then, an enemy bullet smashed his shin, and the fracture failed to fuse up which made Valeriy feel constant severe pain. Still this did not break his spirits: we remember Valeriy as a happy and enthusiastic man. He used to go in for oriental spiritual practices and exercises, and there was always a joyful smile on his face. Unfortunately, Valeriy’s treatment ended in a catastrophe: though there was no point to apply cell technology, and Valeriy’s lower limb was treated with sophisticated surgical methods, still doctors didn’t have enough time to get him recovered. We are truly sorry for this loss; may Valeriy’s blessed memory live forever in our hearts!

The situation as regards the Right Sector volunteer Oleksiy, is different. We have been fighting for his leg injured by a blast, for a few recent years. This was the same reason we meant in the case of Dmytro, a young marine whose treatment didn’t even start. The matter is, the course of treatment with application of cell technology is a protracted process that requires persistence and maximum mobilization of all possible and impossible resources. Suppose just one slight accidental error or the patient’s fault occurs, and a few years of efforts might end up in nothing. Unfortunately, this is what exactly happened in the above-mentioned case.

Combined

While away from the clinic, Oleksiy’s old infections arose again; moreover, the guy himself succumbed to certain common enticements – these factors resulted in failure of the healing and restoration process and nullified the previous gains. In a short period of time, everything we managed to achieve together, was quashed, and doctors had to amputate the leg that got nearly restored by then. We are exceptionally sorry for that; nevertheless, we have done everything we could on our part.

In spite of all the troubles, we urge you to keep trying and never give up. Bad luck and misfortunes do occasionally happen. But nearly a hundred of heavily wounded fighters who have been successfully restored thanks to application of the latest technologies, makes rather a considerable outcome. Shortly, we are going to update the Project’s budget. Some of the fighters are to undergo correction surgeries and procedures, which, correspondingly, will lead to increase of expenditures. Anyway, we cannot renounce these as we promised to complete the treatment of our ward fighters and bring them back to full life.
