We never disclose any details about the positions where our good friends, namely those serving with the National Guard, are working. We are absolutely aware of the fact that our publications can be read not only by compassionate Ukrainians but blood-thirsty enemies as well. We are not going to provide them with any operative information endangering our fighters. That is why we get rather frustrated by the idle questions like “Is our National Guard really fighting?”, “Whom is our National Guard combating in the fourth line?”, “What do the snipers do while sitting up at the checkpoints behind the lines?” and so on, because mostly we just cannot provide proper answers to these without releasing sensitive military secrets.
Those who are “not fighting”: the National Guard’s snipers are either in “the fourth line” or “sitting up at checkpoints”
The worst scenario materialized last weekend: enemy riflemen have shot our fighter. This happened near Verhniotoretske, where the sniper war is taking place these days. Russian gunmen have been actively working there since late 2017. Similarly, our guys are actively gunning for them, and the National Guard snipers’ contribution into the counter sniper job is difficult to overstate. The late fighter served with the Kulchytskyi Battalion of the National Guard of Ukraine. Moreover, he was shot during a sniper duel in which our shooters were pursuing an enemy gunman: the guy worked in a group sustaining fire support. The guys’ task was to distract an opponent, mask our snipers’ firing positions and, in case of open confrontation, ensure fire support of their withdrawal if necessary. Unfortunately, this time one of the enemy sniper’s shots proved accurate: Myroslav who was well known and respected among his comrades, was killed on the spot.
We never profiteer either on deaths or tragedies; similarly, we do not try to get around or use these as excuses for asking your support in some minor or excessive matters. Still if you have the possibility and willingness to assist the Ukrainian snipers – your backing will always be highly appropriate.
