How Andriy’s treatment is progressing:

Andriy, 41, volunteer with the 72nd Brigade, wounded in Izvaryne.

Left leg: the consequences of explosive shrapnel wounds. Gunshot osteomyelitis of the left tibia. Bone traction to regenerate the tibia. Nonunion fracture on the brink of the middle and lower third of the tibia with varus deformity.

The soldier, has a half nonunion fracture of the tibia and constant inflammation at the site of the injury. If these processes continue the soldier is threatened with disability, or in the worst case – amputation. Stem cell technology will restore the lost bone and return leg function.

More information about the wounded:

Andriy, a volunteer soldier with the 72nd was wounded on July 12, 2014 near the village Izvaryne when the Ukrainian troops’ position came under shelling. Andriy received numerous shrapnel wounds to his legs, arms and abdomen.
Infection of the soldier’s leg wound led to osteomyelitis, which for almost half-a-year destroyed bone in Andriy’s shin and also led to complications in soft tissues of the foot. He underwent about 20 major operations in hospitals, but the bone did not heal.
Andriy, a resident of Kyiv region, worked in peacetime as a security guard, but in the spring of 2014 could not sit back while Ukraine’s territorial integrity was in danger so volunteered to fight. In the ATO zone Andriy and his unit performed tasks crossing the border into Donbas – from Mariupol to Lugansk.

Incidentally, Andriy’s younger son also part in combat operations in the East. Meanwhile, waiting for the fighter at home is his elder son, daughter, wife and 7-year-old grandson.
